Summary

In this fourth episode of a four-part series on “Concise Decision-Writing,” Chairperson of the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal Emily Crocco is inviting physician, researcher and podcaster Dr. Ken Milne to learn more about knowledge translation (the process of converting research results into practice), and what the legal system can learn about science’s work in the area.

  • Ken Milne, MD, MSc, CCFP-EM, FCFP, FRRMS, staff physician, Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (Strathroy, ON)

Dr. Milne has been doing medical research for 40 years publishing on a variety of topics. He has been working clinically for 28 years and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Emergency Medicine) and Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has taught evidence-based medicine, clinical epidemiology, critical appraisal and biostatistics at Western University in London, Ontario. Dr. Milne is passionate about skepticism and critical thinking. He is the creator of the knowledge translation project, The Skeptics’ Guide to Emergency Medicine (TheSGEM).  Currently, Dr. Milne is doing his Executive MBA at Ivey School of Business. Ken is married to Barb and has three amazing children. 

Dr. Milne serves as a senior editor of Academic Emergency Medicine. He has no funding from the pharmaceutical or biomedical device industry. He is on faculty for the Center for Medical Education and EMRAP. Dr. Milne does partake in medical malpractice reviews and does hold a patent on a pediatric resuscitation device.

Emily Crocco is Chairperson and Full-Time Member of the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal. She has extensive experience in administrative law, having been legal counsel at the Security Intelligence Review Committee and the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP, and an adjudicator for Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board and Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. Ms. Crocco has an LL.B. from McGill University and a B.A. in Politics and History from Brock University.
