Letter to The Honourable Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin from CIAJ’s President, The Honourable Justice P. Colleen Suche (Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba):
Dear Justice O’Bonsawin,
It is with great enthusiasm that we learned today of your nomination to the Supreme Court of Canada. On behalf of CIAJ’s Board of Directors and myself, I offer our warmest congratulations and wish you every success in your new position. We know you will make an important contribution to the Court.
As you already know, CIAJ’s mission is to promote a better administration of justice. We are delighted that Canada’s highest court is welcoming a person of your background, skills and perspective. The importance of having an indigenous member of the court is widely understood. That it is you, in particular, is exciting. In so many ways you represent what we want all Canadians to be–part of or at least at home in Indigenous, English and French language and culture.
We are grateful for the time and efforts you have generously invested in CIAJ over the past several years, as a Director, President of the Circle of Indigenous Peoples, and presenter.
And of course, we look forward to counting you among our active members and guest speakers in the future.
