Episode 79 (En anglais): Creating a Modern and Accessible Legal News Platform
Broadcast Date: April 4, 2024

In this episode, CIAJ’s host Sarah Rowe is welcoming lawyer Dylan Gibbs, Founder & Author of Hearsay, a plain language email newsletter aiming to keep Canadian lawyers informed of key decisions and topical legal news. Together, they discuss the launch of this weekly bulletin and the need for more accessible and innovative approaches to legal writing in Canada.

  • Dylan Gibbs, Lawyer; Founder & Author, Hearsay

Dylan Gibbs is the author of Hearsay, an email newsletter for Canadian lawyers. He focuses on writing about the law in simple terms, with a healthy dose of humour. After graduating law school from the University of Alberta, Dylan worked as a judicial law clerk at the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He practiced litigation in a commercial setting, then as a Crown prosecutor, before taking up legal journalism full-time.

Sarah is a 3L student in the English Common Law program at the University of Ottawa from St. John’s, Newfoundland. At CIAJ she has worked on the Symposium on Indigenous Courts, the Annual Conferences, and on podcasts discussing topical justice issues. She is the Chair of CIAJ Student Committee. Sarah would like to use her legal education to expand her worldview and advance the rights of Indigenous peoples, migrants, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and other minority groups in Canada.

In All Fairness is a Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice podcast channel welcoming representatives from the legal community and exploring how we can all contribute to improving the administration of justice in Canada. Legal professionals will benefit from informed discussions on key issues, essential knowledge and insights to strengthen their practice.
